Lukas Mileder, a consultant in paediatrics and adolescent medicine at the Medical University of Graz, has been appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board of the Austrian Patient Safety Platform. In this role, he will help to further strengthen patient and staff safety within the Austrian healthcare system. In 2023, he received the Austrian Patient Safety Award in the âResuscitationâ category, and in 2024, he won the Youngster Award for final-year projects (1st place) from the Austrian Patient Safety Platform.
The Platform is an independent network of key institutions and experts within the Austrian healthcare system that addresses issues relating to safety in healthcare. It was founded in 2008 on the initiative of the Federal Ministry of Health and aims to systematically address current issues in patient and staff safety.
The Scientific Advisory Board advises the Platformâs Executive Board on fundamental and strategic issues and contributes scientific expertise from the fields of medicine, healthcare and management. Furthermore, the board participates in the evaluation of projects and supports the further development of measures to improve safety in the healthcare sector. The platformâs work is in line with the WHO Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021â2030, which defines patient safety worldwide as a central task of health systems. Through his involvement in the Scientific Advisory Board, Lukas Mileder will contribute his expertise to this national network in future.
