The Division of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry is looking for a

Senior Scientist (PostDoc) (m/w/d)

Core duties and responsibilities:

  • Participation in research activities and research projects in the field of single-cell fluorescence microscopy and cellular energy & metabolism research
  • Independent development and establishment of methods for measuring energy metabolism and metabolic processes in single cells
  • Execution of stem cell–based cell differentiation and culture, as well as investigations of mitochondrial membrane proteins
  • Participation in the preparation of research funding applications
  • Conducting teaching activities (up to a maximum of 6 semester hours) within the Human Medicine diploma program and supervision of students
  • Assuming organisational and administrative responsibilities


Successful candidates must have the following qualifications:

  • Completed diploma/master’s degree in a natural or health science field (e.g., biology, molecular biology, chemistry, pharmacy, or medicine), as well as a completed PhD
  • Experience in conducting scientific projects, preferably in the field of single-cell fluorescence microscopy and cellular energy and metabolism research
  • Knowledge of differentiating stem cells into neurons
  • Several months of research experience after the PhD at an institution different from the one where the doctorate was obtained
  • Teaching skills and experience in education
  • Very good English proficiency (C1 level)


The ideal candidate has the following profile:

  • Experience in writing research funding proposals and acquiring third-party funding
  • Openness and interest in collaborations within and outside the chair and the center
  • Experience in leading and supervising colleagues in the laboratory
  • Willingness to learn German for teaching purposes within the department
  • Strong communication skills in an international team

Classification in employment group B1 according to the collective agreement for university employees.


We offer an annual gross salary of EUR 70,200.20 under the collective agreement, based on full-time employment. Previous work experience will lead to a higher basic salary.
